A couple of days ago I got my hands (at least my Remote Desktop Connections) on a shiny new dedicated server, managed by Logicworks. Its nothing special, just a single processor Xeon with plenty of RAM and hard-disk space. But its mine! It'll be nice not to have to share.
We chose Logicworks because of the support they offered, coupled with the services included in the hosting plan. This is my first time dealing with them, so I'm still forming my opinion of them. My previous experiences with other hosts have left much to be desired.
My expectation is that I will receive unparalleled support in case of emergency, excellent connectivity and strong network security. The icing on the cake would be getting help in areas that they aren't actually responsible for, such as applications and software installations (I don't mean actually doing the work, just recommendations.)
So far, I've been very happy with two things:
1 - the server was turned over to me completely locked down. I had to contact the Network Operations Center to open port 80. I like that, now I know that there are no open ports due to some standard configuration that has open ports I don't need.
2 - boy is that server fast. I download a 16 MB file in two seconds, that 8 MB per second!
They've been very responsive (for the two days I have the server) and my project manager has been quite accommodating. So far so good! I'll keep posting noteworthy happenings of my dealings with them as they occur.
